Description:

Intra-familial Homicide and the Intergenerational Transmission of Trauma – Implications for Practice

This forum will be presented by Dr Carolyn Harris Johnson, Lecturer, School of Occupational Therapy & Social Work, Faculty of Health, Curtin University of Technology

on Thursday, 18th March 2010 - 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm

Dept. for Child Protection/Dept of Health Canteen Area, 189 Royal Street, East Perth

All are welcome.

Dr. Johnson is the author of the book, 'Come with Daddy' which is the definitive study concerning child murder-perpetrator suicide that occurs after family breakdown.  Dr. Johnson is a former counselor with the Family Court of Western Australia and was instrumental in the developing the Magellan Project model which is now the key tool used by the Family Court where there are child related or child maltreatment issues present.  She is also a former officer with DCP where she was a team leader, a senior case work supervisor and a policy officer.

Her illuminating talk is not to be missed!

§ Hear details of WA-based research that examined all homicides involving family/intimate partners over a 10 year period

§ Learn from interviews with perpetrators and families what factors may have contributed to the homicide or made intervention strategies ineffective

§ Find out the links between attachment theory and neurobiology of trauma as they relate to familial homicides

§ Consider what this means for your practice with families where violence is present

Presentation will follow with time for questions and a light supper.
