NICOLA COLEMAN - BOARD MEMBER

Nicola was born in England and was then raised on the Pacific Islands. She attended boarding school in England and commuted back to Islands in the Pacific for the last four years of her high school education. She trained in London as a Health Professional and emigrated to Perth in 1991.  Nicola has travelled and worked extensively throughout rural and remote areas in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Nicola speaks publicly about being a survivor of domestic violence in the hope that with more education, everyone is able to love unconditionally, which is what most family units set out to achieve. Her first public speech was at the 20th anniversary of the Silent March in Perth with the Women's Council. This was the first year it was also amalgamated with the International White Ribbon Day commemorations.

Raising boys as a sole parent, Nicola is passionate about the health and well-being not just for boys but also men. "If our men are happy and can love in a safe way, then more families can remain together. Everyone can love and be loved unconditionally. Men that perpetrate domestic violence are not happy. We need to improve the way we educate everyone so that the rates of domestic violence are reduced. This is a gender based issue that impacts on everyone in our society."

CATE HARMAN - BOARD MEMBER
Cate is currently WA State Manager with Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. She has been in this position for almost two years and been with PCFA for seven years.

Cates background is in health sciences, with an honours degree majoring in Pharmacology.  Cate worked in clinical research in Victoria for several years and then after moving to Perth set up a health clinic focusing on stress relief for the physical and psychological stresses of today’s demanding lifestyles.

Cate lives in Nedlands with her husband and four teenage sons.  Her sons are a particular source of joy and pride after having raised them largely on her own in their younger years after her first marriage ended. “I believe that healthy relationships are key to boys growing up to be good fathers and good husbands, and this being crucial to them leading healthy successful lives”.

Cate has developed a strong interest and passion in men’s health in general and being a part of the movement to change the way men think about their health, and the value they attribute to taking care of themselves.  “I see the disparity between the emphasis on men’s health and women’s health and I have a strong desire to contribute to balancing the scales”.
